I cant defrag? :(

so i need to defrag my hard drive because my OS is so slow i even tried to clone it to a new HDD unsuccessfully, however, it will not allow me to and this message appears : "task scheduler had not been started" so i went to services to start it and went to properties but all options are greyed out and it will not allow me to change it from "disabled" to automatic, i have all the necessary services running required for it to run and i have defragged before but now it just doesnt seem to want to work ?

any help?

Is their adequate room ?.... generally ya want 15% free space to defrag successfully.
