I Can't Disconnect?

I have just set-up dial-up internet on a computer for a friend and it ocnnects to the internet and works fine, trouble is i cant disconect without physically un-plugging the phone line from the computer or restarting the computer.

When you connect you get the activity icons down the bottom flasing, i right click on that goto disconnect and it does nothing, if i double-click on that icon in the system-tray it doesnt even bring up the status box showing me how much i ahve downloaded/uploaded.

This might sound like a good thing, can;t get disconnected from the internet but we have a fax running on the same line which needs to be able to recieve emails.

If i bring up the network connections box, and try and disconnect from there it does the same thing. Please help me!

Without knowing what you've already tried, this is what I would try first:

1. Make sure windows is updated.

If that doesn't help:

2. Uninstall the modem and the drivers and reinstall it. Check the manufacturers web site for any updates.

Thanks for the reply, i managed to fix the problem, all i needed to do was update internet explorer, so i assume re-installling it would have done the same thing, thanks for your time.
