Question I can't figure out what causes the stutter in games such as DCS, and Son of the Forest ?

Hey guys, PC specs are i3-12th Gen with a single stick 3600 MHZ RAM and RX 570 4GB. I always get stutter on DCS multiplayer and sometimes offline too and it's awful. Whenever the game shutters the GPU usage drops to 0 Percent. Can't figure out what's causing it?

1 stick of RAM (no matter how fast) cuts the CPUs bandwidth in half, usually resulting in massive stutters. Also the PSU could be dying depending on age

Using some Chinese PSU (TOP power 500 watts 80+), Patriot 256 GB SSD around 30 GBs are left

I would both add another stick of RAM and replace the PSU with a reliable one from a major manufacturer and see if that fixes it.

I Thought GPU was causing the stutters. will add another 16 gig ram stick,

Is this a new build? What exact CPU do you have? Stutters can be caused by the CPU not providing the frames that the GPU needs.

RAM sticks that are purchased together in the same kit/shrink-wrap typically work well. Adding another stick does not always work out well with running dual channel at the advertized speed.

Its been a few months, i3-12100,

It doesn't stutter in any other game. only stutters in DCS and stutters a lot and sometimes in son of the forest

DCS is a complex sim. They added multithreading to the open beta back in March, but I don't keep up with it and don't know if that's in the main branch download by now. Either way, having issues with an i3 isn't a surprise at all, it's more surprising that they're only occasional.

The PC just isn't up to task given what you're asking of it.

That CPU, i3-12100 should be sufficient to run those games.

Like others have suggested, it could be your single stick RAM. I'd buy a kit of 2 16 Gb sticks to REPLACE your existing 16 Gb stick.

I've seen people run on DCS better settings than me on an i3 8 gen processor

Yep. ram is probably causing the stutter

Checked again today, and CPU usage is around 30+ percent and rarely goes over 50

It's not at all ideal. You really need to have two matched sticks.

I highly doubt that is the cause.
