I cant find my files on a dvd-r

I open my DVD-R with files I backed-up some time ago. The files where there, I could open them.
When I tried to open de disk again, on the same day, all files seemed to have disapeared. The computer shows the disk as with space taken, but the disk is now empty.
How can I recover my files from this disk?

There is no recovery with a DVD-R. The files are either there or they are not. Sounds like you failed to burn the disc properly to me.

Could you explain how you backed the files up? That might give us a clue as to what happened.
