I can't get a stable Wi-Fi connection despite using an extender

I'm in a houseshare of 7 people using a single Virgin Wi-Fi router (new) and my room is too far from the router to get a strong signal. I bought and set up an extender (took some time) to boost the signal but I'm still getting issues. Sometimes it works but it's intermittent. I'm also getting errors like:

IP address doesn't have a valid configuration

and

Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)
The device or resource is not responding to requests

Since I am in a houseshare I cannot risk tampering with the router and affecting housemates as well. The router was recently replaced (supplied by Virgin). The extender I'm using is a TP-link brand. I've been in contact with the company but not found a working solution. 🙁

Any suggestions? This is driving me bananas
Thanks

Solution
Set a static IP on the end computer and DNS of Google (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4)

Set the Static IP at the high ind of the range, like 192.168.1.250... You'll need to see what the DHCP range is currently assigning on the working computers to know what to set in the first 3 octets. This will solve the addressing issue, not the signal strength issue... Move the extender to different plugs in between the router and the end PC to get the best signal between them. If you can, move his PC to a wall closer to the extender as well.

Where did you place the extender. It does no good to put it near your computer if the computer already has a weak signal the extender will get the same weak signal and the degrade the data even more...even though the output signal will be strong the quality will be poor.

Extenders are extremely hard to get properly placed and you still get strange errors now and then just because you now have 2 radio signals that can have issues rather than just 1.

It sounds like your extender does not have a connection to the main router...hard to say for sure. It sounds like you have a basic wireless connections but are not passing any data over it. Since you are not saying other people are having issues it is unlikely a issue with your router which leaves the extender not being able to correctly talk to the router.
