I recently purchased a blu-ray drive for my desktop. An Asus BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM. I verified that my connections were secure and the drive does have power since I can open and close the tray. However the drive does not show up in My Computer or Device Manager. I tried different SATA ports on my motherboard to no avail. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

OS is Windows 7 Professional SP1
Motherboard is a ASROCK 990FX Extreme 4 BIOS V2.6

Edit: So a couple of things I already tried, I tried adding it in my BIOS but it doesnt even show up in my bootlist. Went into regedit and deleted the upper and lower filter registry items, rebooted and still the drive wouldn't show up.

Solution
Updating / Flashing your BIOS sound complicated but it is just as simple as installing a driver. If need any help let me know. But flashing your BIOS to get a blu-ray drive working sounds extensive.

I doubt it will be the BIOS, Your entitled to return your item if it is faulty I Would ask for a replacement.
Have you gone to the manufactures website for drivers? Something IOBITs Driver booster can be a great tool. If it is not even showing up in your BIOS or Device Manager after that I would say that it's a faulty Drive or Motherboard but I doubt all your SATA ports are dud.

I've gone straight to customer support and the only thing they've told me was to try updating my chipset and BIOS, two things that aren't exactly my forte but I imagine can't be too hard. I've tried searching for drivers online, currently using the program you suggested to update any out of date drivers.

Well that's the plan at this point. Updating all these out of date drivers right now, actually had a few dozen. We'll see what happens afterwards. Thanks for the help
