I can't open my saved Images on Computer

I have .jpg files on my computer. few days earlier I opened the folder and all thumbnails were missing when opened in photoviewer it reads "windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted, or is too large." won't open on any image viewer tried adobe ps, illustrator, online file viewers etc.. i looked up file type online to see if it was indeed .jpg and this came up:

File Type: data
MIME Type: application/octet-stream
Suggested file extension(s): bin dms lha lzh exe class so dll img iso

See if Irfanview can open them. If not, they may be corrupted.

As a side note, did you run bitlocker or some other file compression or encryption software? If so the files may simply be encrypted or compressed. THen you should be able to reverse the process and see if that resolves the issue.

thanks for ur reply... didnt run bitlocker or any other encryption software, i also tried irfan view but it can't open the file.
i would also like to add that when i view properties of these pictures there is data (dimension, width, height etc) is missing.
but file size is available...

Where are these pictures from and how long have they been on the computer?

Were you able to access the pictures say a week ago?

Hi Nerdy,

i had uploaded these picture from my Android to laptop about 2 months ago and i was able to access these, but since 2 weeks when i tried to open these pictures windows photo viewer prompts;"windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted, or is too large."
i also have tried almost many different software to open these pictures but didn't work...
in properties of these picture i can see its size but the dimension, width and height is missing.

Have you checked weather you have enough space on your hard drive? Pretty stupid question but still a good thing to check.

Try File Repair

See if this fixes the files and post back if not.

yes i have almost 400gb free space. thanks for the link, i will try file repair and respond to you once its completed...

I have completed to try one of these files to fix with File Repair and this came up.....

Put the photos back onto your phone and see if you can view them on there, if that fails try on a different computer. If all of that fails then the files are probably gone.

I copied some of images back to my phone but unable to open, if you go to properties of a jpg file you can see that Dimension, width and height is available but unfortunately in these files dimension, width, height is missing. what can it be?? can i add these manually?
