Ok, here is the link to what is in my gaming pc:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4q2KTH
I am almost certain I should be able to play any game at 144 hz but for some reason, Im not able to do it. My friend who knows a bit about pc searched a bit and told me its because I have a wire between my DVI-D wire and my graphics. I dont know why that could be a problem considering I dont have a DVI-D hole in my graphics card. I dont think my graphics card is the problem either because its a 1080 TI so I would be very very surprised if i couldn't play at 144 hz. The wire connected to my graphics card and to my DVI-D wire came with my monitor so I assumed it was the right kind of wire.
Plz, I need the internet’s help.

Solution
Yeah try it with any you have around.

What kind of adapter are you using now? Is it one from displayport -> dvi or hdmi -> dvi?

ed: actually the sources I can find say using an adapter from displayport -> dvi only converts to DVI-I (not DVI-D) so your friend could be correct. It seems you will need a specialized adapter to get 144hz with an adapter.

This one is recommended by Nvidia customer support if the HDMI cable doesn't work. https://www.amazon.com/Accell-UltraAV-B087B-002B-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U/

I could be wrong though as it is difficult to find good information about this. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/850426/geforce-900-series/which-displayport-to-dl-dvi-adapter-cable-for-1080p-144hz-/
Well, it’s not that your GPU can’t display at 144Hz, it’s the monitor. The monitor has to have a refresh rate of 144Hz in order to DISPLAY at 144Hz. And, most DVI-D monitors have a refresh rate of 60Hz, so it’ll cap out visuals to 60Hz/FPS.

I dont think thats the problem because when I look at the monitor on parts picker or basically anywhere else, it says that it has a refresh rate of 144 hz.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I mean that I am unable to play at 144 hz, however I can comfortably get 144+ fps in games. I tried setting it to the right thing but I dont even see the option to do it, it’s like I’m unable to play at this ”level” and I dont understand why.

You mean like, any HDMI cable, or do I need a specific one? I mean can I use the same wire I use for my PS4 because I think those cables dont transfer fast enough.

It’s a displayport --> DVI-D. It came with my monitor so I assumed it was the right kind of wire.
