When you put the DVD in your drive, can you open the drive in my computer and see 2 folders, Audio_TS and Video_TS? If you can, go into windows media player and scroll down to your drive and the DVD should play. Otherwise it could be either a different region disc or wrong format (DVD-R or DVD+R).

Does it(Optical Drive) have support for all types? yours probably is an old one that can only read/write CDs only...
