I can't play movies from my external hard drive on my flat screen tv

Some USB ports on TVs are just for firmware updates or pictures, and don't support video playback. What is the make/model of your TV?

Also, some TV's only support FAT32 formatted drives. Check your file system.

You may need to get a USB thumbdrive and just put the movies you want to watch on it, a few at a time.

Hi there AJ Morash,

Most probably you will need to format the HDD to a FAT32 format. Here is a guide how to do that: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=GTqqei
If this does not work out, you can try to connect a USB flash drive as g90814 already suggested.
It may not be a bad idea to check out the TV's manual and see what are the supported video files.
