Here's the thing I have 144Hz monitor and for right now I can't upgrade my cpu 2500k nor my gpu GTX 1060. So I have monitor set at 144Hz right now which is nice on the desktop. But for now in games I can only run them at 60Hz and I also use v-sync cause I can't stand screen tearing.

Here's the problem if my monitor is set at 144Hz and most often when I start the game it won't stay at 60Hz it might hover at 70-80fps depending what game it is. So here what happens before I start the game I have to go into nvidia control panel and set the refresh at 60Hz then start the game and I'll have my 60Hz and v-sync like I want.

What happens if you run the monitor at 144hz, but cap the games at 60hz? You know a lot of games have framerate limiters. Thst way you could benefit from 144hz on the desktop and in applications, but have your 60fps in games.
