I can't see files in folders when I browse to insert them into a program or email.

If I am just browsing through folders everything is there. But when I want to either attach a file to an email or insert it into a program--any program--the file will not show up when I browse for them. (It doesn't matter the type of file...nothing shows up. This is true of files in my Dropbox.) This has happened about ten times over the last year. It seems to correct itself after a day or two of constantly shutting down and restarting...but it is annoying as all can be.

I am using Windows 7 service pack 1
I have a Dell Vostro 3560
