I have just brought 2x WD 3TB external hard drive but my laptop can only see one at a time, i already have 2 other external hard drives on the laptop which are running on USB 2.0, the WD are on 3.0.

Any help would be great.

Solution
If they are portable models (ie no mains adapter) it may be caused by insufficient power available through the USB ports. The power requirements (in amps) of a portable hard drive are higher than for a mouse or a pen drive.

So whilst an internal USB hub can cope with maybe two portable hard drives, three or four is just too many for it to cope with.

If it is a power issue, a mains-powered USB hub should fix the problem, otherwise you'll have to refrain from plugging all of your drives in to USB all at the same time.

Do you have a USB hub that can put up enough power?
