I cant set up dual monitors

When i try to set up both my monitors it only works when i do duplicate and when i switch to extend my second monitor goes black

I think the resolution windows is trying to use on your second monitor is too great. turn it all the way down, then turn it back up to the highest you can get it before it goes black.

it is still black nothing ever shows up but when i hit identify the number shows up

Resolution doesn't matter. If the number shows while it's extended, then isn't it just a black background?

i have used a tv as a second monitor over vga, and nothing would show up until i turned the resolution down because the computer couldn't detect the maximum resolution that the tv could handle for some reason. but if the number shows up, its getting a signal.

like you can tell the monitor is staying on its just that nothing is showing up

ya it doesnt let my mouse cursor go onto the other screen

Are you using AMD or Nvidia? either one you need to enable the monitor and do some minor configuration using Windows and or your GPU driver These settings are found in Display and Resolution or Change position resolution.

are you sure your monitors are set up the right direction? try dragging to the other side of the screen.
