I can't type over things when i've highlighted them

Hi,
Usually, in MS word or any other word processor, when you select some text
(by mouse or holding shift) any key stroke after that will erase what was
selected and replace with the respective key stroke thingy.

I'm not sure if i've pressed some strange button or something.. but all of a
sudden, when I'm using word if i select any text, I can't then just start
typing and expect it to be replaced with whatever i'm typing. It just
deselects it and puts my typing next to it.

Is there anyway that i can fix this?? it's driving me mad!!

Two things to check:
On the keyboard: Try pressing the Insert button. Pressing this once will
insert characters instead of overtyping. Press the key again and overtype
is active.

In the word processor program: Check user settings for overtype/insert
behavior. For example, MS Word has such a setting under Tools/Options.

Not mad enough that you would check the help file or options in Word,
apparently. Tools>Options>Edit>Typing Replaces Selection.
