i cant use my second internal hard drive

i have had an primary SSD drive and a 1Tb HDD in my comp since i built it. i have never tried to use the HDD until now but i cant use it. it shows up in device manager, storage pools, and by BIOS as boot option 2 for disk drives BBS properties. but it doesnt show up in disk manager. i dont know what to do and non of the other answers have worked. can anyone help me?

i have windows 10 with an MSI x99s gaming 9 ack mother board

have you never ever used it . at all ? open up command prompt (admin)

type : diskpart
then : list disk

then tell me if you can see the disk in the list that it shows.

i have never used the HDD before.

when i opened admin typed diskpart, and then typed list disk it did not show my HDD. it only showed the SSD that i have been using

if you have already tried these methods.. please accept my apologies but i am unsure of everything you have tried ..

if you have a windows installation disk.. try booting from that .. as if you're going to reinstall windows.. just to check if the disk shows up there . if it does show up in there you should be able to format the HDD. and then just restart your computer without installing windows! removing the windows installation disk and booting as normal.

you could also try updating your storage drivers for your motherboard from here http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_rst_x99.zip

he is saying he can't access it to format , partition or mark it as active nor assign the HDD a letter .

are you saying there is a previous thread about the OP asking about formatting the HDD? or are you asking if the disk is formatted ?

adiec, I was wanting to know if Sean ever formatted the HD a long time ago, right after he installed that HD into the computer. Even though he never used the HD, Day One, long ago, was that HD ever formatted, prepped?

that is why i asked him to use diskpart .. because even if the drive was hidden it would still be listed and shown as hidden.. it seems to me like it wasn't formatted. i would still expect it to appear in disk management though! i have asked him to run the windows setup disk as i would expect that he can format the drive from there .. as it shows in bios. might just be his version of windows is having a distraught moment
