Hi guys,
I just cleaned my pc and now my monitor doesn't have a signal. I removed my video card and cleaned it with an old toothbrush. I also removed the fan on top of the heat sink. Those are the only things that I removed. But I think the main reason of the no signal is the way I cleaned the video card. kindly help me. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Sigh. This is really sad. O well, I will just have this checked at a shop. I think my DIYs made the problem worse so i'll just have a professional look into it. I thought I can pull this one off by myself but i guess my level can't solve this. Well, thank you very much for all of your help. I hope you'll be able to help more people in the future. Thanks again. :)

Did you re-connect the fan header to the GPU PCB?

Also, you need to take into consideration that you might have short-circuited your card, if you didn`t ground yourself before touching your PC components.

Pardon me but are you referring to the cable that needs to be connected to the gpu. Mine has 6 slots and yes it is connected. I also reseated the ram and the gpu but to no avail. If I short-circuited my card, can it still be fixed? Thanks again.

He's referring to the fan you removed that was on top of the heat sink. If you didn't plug the fan back into the power source on the GPU, it will just overheat or not turn itself on to prevent cooking itself.

What is the make and model of your motherboard? Do you hear any extra beeps when you switch the machine on? Do you have onboard VGA connection that you can check if your PC is able to reach the BIOS?

If you have onboard VGA, then take out your Graphics card, connect your monitor to the VGA and see if it boots. If it does, then you may have damaged the Graphics card. If you don't have a VGA connection, you need to test the card in another system.

A toothbrush is quite abrasive to be cleaning parts with.

I'm not sure about the make and model but I do know that it has an onboard vga connection. I tried to remove the gpu and connected the monitor to the vga but it still does the same thing. There are no extra beeps by the way.

What I did was remove the gpu and the 6 slot connector connected to it,cleaned it with a toothbrush then I unscrewed the fan of the heat sink without removing the connector of the fan. Then I placed everything back. Now my monitor turns on but then goes into blank screen like when it is in sleep mode. It is not giving an error like it does when it is not connected to the cpu.

It might not be the Graphics card then. I think what you are best doing is disconnecting everything from the motherboard. Including removing the RAM modules. HDDs, Fans etc. Then reconnect/re-seat everything. It sounds like somthing is not connected correctly or somthing has become faulty. The best way to make sure is to basically rebuild your components onto the motherboard.

You must make sure that you have re-connected all of the correct power plugs. Can you confirm that the 4-pin ATX 12v plug is connected into your motherboard as well at the 20/24 pin plug?

I just did what you suggested and checked all the connections. Yes, all the power plugs are connected same with the 4-pin ATX but still doing the same thing. Although, when I checked, I have two 4-pin ATX 12v plug. Maybe because I have an onboard VGA connection?

Some power supplies come with two ATX12v plugs which can join together to form an 8pin EPS12v plug that some motherboards require. Unless your motherboard has an 8 pin EPS socket then you don't need to worry.

If you are not getting any display, then this might suggest a faulty RAM module, or in the worst case scenario, the motherboard has become faulty, or an issue with the CPU. You mentioned that you removed the Heatsink fan from the CPU or was it the fan from the GPU?

If it was on the CPU heatsink, then you may have damaged the CPU underneath the heatsink when removing the fan, as there is a fair amount of pressure on the CPU from the HSF clamps. Like I said before, you may want to rebuild your system from the start with all components removed, but I fear that some part has failed in this case.

Check each RAM module first to see if it will boot. Use the onboard VGA until you can diagnose the problem. There could be more than one here. You might have to resort to testing your components in another system to see which may be faulty.

Good luck!
