Question I connected HDD to my laptop but it doesn’t detect it

I connected my HDD to my laptop through USB, but it doesn’t detect it nor do i feel the disk running, the light keeps blinking but nothing happens.

The HDD has windows 11 apparently, i wanted to wipe everything out to 0

USB cable made for external hard drive, and i have a part from an external hdd to able to connect through USB.

That USB cable cannot work with a 3.5" drive.

That drive requires both 12v and 5v.
The USB can only supply the 5v.

You need a dock with an actual wall plug.

Yep, the above comments about 12 & 5v are correct. I know cause I frequently use an adapter like the one in the Mandark linked to for my relatives who still have spinning rust and need to erase/reformat them etc...
