Forgive the long .vlg, snipped it a bit, not certain what information is
useful for character evaluation. I started playing again a few days ago
after along (multi year absence), so I'm still getting up to speed. This
character has done the best so far, and he seems a prime candidate to
finally progress past the early game. I don't hold out much hope for an
actual victory, with so much uncharted territory ahead, but I'm armed with
spoily knowledge, and I've acquired a lot of nice stuff (by my estimation at
least) so far. In addition to the gear listed here, I've also stored a giant
pile of various decent backup gear, weapons, tools, rings, etc at the shop,
should my equipment get toasted in some manner.

I have not yet proceeded past the trees to Khel, nor have I cleared
Gremlins, High King, Darkforge, Water Dragon, or the Assassins. I acquired
Fire immunity from my crowning.

My main questions would be what should I use the Wish from the ring on, and
what order should I tackle the next few challenges in? Hit some of the
optional dungeons, then dive? Wish for AoLS, save Khel, proceed down from
there? Wish for something else? I have no means of safe bridge building yet,
and I'm a bit paranoid about using Ice to cross that gap.The tower of Flames
looms as a threat as well.

A wish to save Khelly is generally a good idea. Not only
for the possibility of ultra endings (which you have
forfeited by crowning), but also for the stack of ?oCR.
You get six blessed ones and believe me - they frequently
see use.

Otherwise it could be an idea to wish for Food
Preservation. As skill goes I find this particular one
very useful. Starvation is always a haunting ghost, and a
great many corpses have useful benefits. Since you have
Cooking you might also be lucky to find a cooking set
although they are rare beasts (and also wish candidates
for that very reason).

Another frequent wish is 7LB. I can
see you still lack a pair and they are pretty difficult to
find. Down the line of wish candidates we find a girdle of
giant strength. Typically this wonder will add +12 to
strength making it almost as effective as a girdle of
carrying as far as CC goes. The higher strength will add a
few HP and make you more lethal in melee.

Don't be paranoid regarding ice brigdes. However be VERY
paranoid regarding confusion resistence. You will most
likely perish if you wind up confused.

You need a ring of ice for the ToEF as I see it. You may
have to rely on invisibility and ranged attacks.

After level 25 you will get plenty of spells to cast on
each level up in the same fashion as elementalists. Among
the lovely additions you will find Calm Monster which will
make breeders/summoners much much easier to handle since
you can let them kill eachother and :swap towards the
summoner itself.

These aren't worth 110s of inventory space.

You need to be careful around the water dragon. She can be
very difficult to vanquish. Once you have the level sorted
you can use a gremlin bomb to generate some pretty neat
equipment. I trust you want to use the Phial to train
Concentration the last few notches to 100? Or simply sac
it? I find it rather useless as artifacts goes.

Not infrequent. Food can be a problem. Have you pacified
the big room to make 'fillia harvesting more smooth?

7LB do show up sooner or later. A recent post showed that
they can be generated with relative safely using mithril
boots, the ancient scythe and a handful of redundant
potions. As for the girdle - they are dreadfully rare. Not
only do they have a low generation seed they also require
a rather high danger level to show up. To my recollection
I have only seen 3 randomly generated.

Sometimes they can be really hard to find. Not worth a

to that.

Playing a Healer without familiarizing with the class :).
Healers are in many respects spellcasters. They are good
at reading from spellbooks and gain some nice and useful
spells automatically. If you are lucky enough to find a
bookshop you'll have a regular spellcaster on your hands.
Got a Wand Dark Elven Healer who did that (yep - they
start neutral to fully benefit from Wand).

Well there is just that little thing about 'cemptia - it
doesn't fill, it makes you more hungry... It does come in
handy when you need to eat a lot of corpses fast
(quicklings in the tree, bugs in bugville and giantkin
with a glowing ring of weakness on your finger), but aside
from that they have no practical use. And they work far
far better in cursed state.

I just finished plowing both Darkforge (no problem with Golems), and
Gremlins to grab the Phial. I'll probably run over to the Assassins to get
the \Tele, as I've acquired Teleportitis and TC, which is pretty darn nice.
Not sure about doing Blup's mom with my current gear, and need to find some
Ice to get the kings ring.

This was my thought - on both aspects. I wasn't planning on going for a
nonstandard ending just yet (I'd be quite happy with a successful escape
after closing!).

This was another thought, as I've had very poor luck with corpses. This
character actually almost starved to death at one point, I made it out of
the UD chewing on unid'd herbs at the start of the game.

Either of those would be nice. 7LB would allow me to kite enemies around,
correct? I'm very leery of getting into melee range with anything that
sounds the least bit unpleasant.

My shirt of Saints cover this, without losing anything critical from the
wrapping?

Hmm yes, been looking for one, figured it wasn't worth burning the wish on.
I figure it should turn up sooner or later.

I'm dreadfully paranoid of paralysis (and my frequent random encounters with
dark elven priestesses etc makes me nervous), so while I'd like to wear it,
unless I can find another source of -para, I usually keep it on, except in
cases like the Gremlin cave etc.

I'll dump some down, part of the reason I was carrying so much food was the
artifact food drain, I hadn't been crowned at the time, and was going from
bloated to hungry rapidly. Seems to be much better now.

Ah indeed, I've been reading the group extensively, and have seem numerous
respectful posts regarding her. My thought was to hop in, magic map (scrolls
safe with blessed waterproof blanket?), teleport to her, say hi, tell Blup,
then come back and fight her with Darkness, after I had gained a bit more
power. I experienced the 'being washed away' by a water E in Darkforge, and
that sliced right through whatever my resists happened to be (come to think
of it, the Steel Golems could hurt me a bit also - nothing Spenseweed
couldn't handle, but enough that I was careful while fighting there).

Yes, largely for saccing, though I suppose I'm farther damaging my ability
to post-crown myself.

Indeed, after seeing the \WoDR technique, I tried it out with excellent
success. Annoyingly, this character didn't have enough !mana or !booze to
complete it the first time, and the RNG decided it would be funny to dump
two summoners and two breeders on the level while there were two unfinished
doors in the trap room (didn't have enough \Digging to do it the alternate
way either). In any case, it was sorted out. There aren't a lot of herb
bushes there, but enough to get some filla, morgia, spense, and mareilon.
Haven't acquired a ton of Holy Water, so I can't create more easily yet. Is
there any other way to create Water potions out of normal potions? I'm
misremembering Nethack's method of diluting/watering down normal potions I
think.

They did indeed. Acquired a pair while scumming for a ?ID (seriously, I
can't find one! got a ton of junk that needs to be looked at, including
several unid'd amulets that could be AoLS). Blessed those. They are NOT safe
from the ToEF correct? Is there any way to look at an item to determine what
material it is made of, short of great identify?

If one of those amulets I picked up turns out to be AoLS, I think I'll
summon up the girdle. Is it made out of a superior metal?

Ok, that should work for fighting him. I've got Slaying arrows, so I can
open, back off with 7LB, and pelt him. Big Punch makes that 2000 stone limit
a little uncomfortable.

Not familiar with this? Gremlins don't drop items, so are you referring to
pickpocketing? I have yet to acquire that skill, as I stayed L trying to
pre-crown, now L+ from crowning. I did some reading on
alignment/altars/crowning, but I couldn't see any effects from changing
alignment at this point. Is it impossible? Or will I lose the Blessing, or
something else? (incidently, what DOES that Blessing do? Just another
helpful bit like Lucky/Fate/luck from the Ankh?).

I probably should have switched to N early in any case, both to get PP, and
to say hi to the Dwarven Mystic (had never done that before, so didn't
realize I could have acquired something other than the axe). Pity the Axe
and the Shield don't get bonuses when used together. It's pretty pointless
otherwise, and again, I just raised the level I'll need for post-crowning
again.

Haha, well, I've been playing all random classes since I just restarted,
trying to get a feel for the game. I mostly just look at their starting
gear/stats/skills, and then go from there. Only class ability I've acquired
so far seems to be fast healing. I suppose I should go read up a bit more on
my powers 😉 I know I can use a Stethoscope without taking time? Doesn't
seem immensely powerful, since I'm not inclined to get into melee with
anything I don't recognize if I can avoid it.

Does the ankh need to be great id'd to give the DV/PV bonus? And are there
any other items I can reasonably expect to find that give -para?

*bonk* Blame it on late night posting. I thought you were referring to a
stack of stomafilla herbs. I was using them for exactly that purpose. I
didn't know that worn stat enhancing items had an effect on the potential
gain. That seems... clunky or oddly designed. I'll keep it in mind when
eating stuff though (and save stat - rings!).

I picked up the Staff of the Wanderer from Darkforge, it doesn't seem
especially useful, but I noticed it does have =Shock. Would that help much
if I decided to tackle the Blue Dragons later in the game, or is it not
worth giving up my shield slot for? And it still doesn't save my equip, as
with =Fire, correct?

Not worth a
wish IMHO. Would rather gremlin bomb for them if it comes
