Basically the last experience i had buying a laptop was a complete let down as i downgraded from a decent VAIO to an Acer that was six years newer, but gets half the FPS and doesnt even have 5G connectivity.

So basically Im adverse to buying anything premade as I dont know how well the components work together (bottle necks and so forth). I dont play anything too intense either, primarily just league of legends, but I like my hardware to work well and not let me down.

What does it generally cost to build a decent desktop currently? What do I need to know so that the components work in tandem and one isnt unnecessarily stronger than the other?

Build, for sure. There are so many guides on how to do it properly on youtube (NCIX and LinusTechTips in particular are great) and the amount of money it takes to build a machine, vs buy the same machine prebuilt is far lower.
