I don't know why I can't run DayZ...

Specs:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
CPU: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Motherboard: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3

I often have to lower my settings quite a bit in order to be able to play with decent frames in cities.

From what I read, DayZ is a VERY CPU heavy game. Your processor is not bad, but expect an average of 30 or less in cities as it is a common problem. If you want a more accurate response if there actually is something wrong, try benchmarking your PC and comparing it to others with the same components.

It's not unusual to get bad performance in DayZ, or any early access survival game ever. Most of them tend to be (as said above) very CPU intensive, where Single Core Performance is key to running the game at an acceptable frame rate.

Dayz is in early alpha for 3 years, the game is not optimized at all and if you really want to play it get a new motherboard and an i5.The hyperthreading function many does things man.

The game isn't optimized yet. When (or if) it ever is optimized you will see great performance gains. It's really amazing the game has been able to maintain it's popularity when 95% of player base is below 30FPS on the regular.
