Hello everyone,
I was having a weird problem trying to install Windows 7 on a SSD, but I could find the problem thankfully to this forum.
Let me explain the whole situation:
Basically, my computer had a GTX260 videocard but it stopped working, so I had to change it. To replace it, I decided to bought a GTX660 and, also, a Corsair CX600 (PSU) and a 120GB SSD to my computer (additional).
Before the problem with my GTX260, my PC had this specs:
i7-860
nVidia GTX260
2x 2GB RAM
2x 1GB RAM
~300GB HD
With this configuration, I used a 400W PSU for years and never had any problem. Worked perfectly.
With the new components, the specs became:
i7-860
nVidia GTX660
2x 2GB RAM
2x 1GB RAM
120GB SSD
And I replaced my old 400W PSU with my new Corsair CX600 (600W).
I booted the "new" PC using my old HD and everything seemed to work fine. No problems and no crashings. All my old files were still there. So, I removed my old HD and replaced it with the new SSD. Then, I started installing win7 on the SSD. At first, everything was OK, but in the middle of the installation I had a problem: When the setup asks to reboot the system (after 10 seconds it does it automatically), after rebooting it, I received an error message.
After searching a lot on the internet for solutions, I find the solution here, on Tomshardware. This is the thread I'm refering to: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/20763-63-windows-install-fails-restart.
Basically, the problem was with the PSU! So, I used an alternative power supply and connected exclusively with the SSD. With the SSD receiving exclusive supply, the installation worked.
This my current situation. I have some questions and I thought maybe you could give me some advice:
If I connect my SSD to the Corsair CX600, with all other components, my PC continues working. In other words, the only problem I had with the PSU was this weird problem when trying to install win7. I'm considerating connect the SSD to the Corsair again and continue using the computer, normally. Do you think it could became a problem in the future?
Also, I still have the old 400W PSU, that always worked fine in the past. I'm also considering connecting all components with my old PSU, except my CX600. The CX600 I would connect to the new CX600 (exclusively). Do you think it is a good idea? However, my first plan was to use a single PSU 🙁
And the last thing: Do you think it is normal a Corsair CX600 not handling my PC configuration? I thought a 600W PSU would be enough...
Any help appreciated
Thank you very much!!
