new: crucial ballistix tactical 16gb ddr3-1600 CL8 (8gbx2)
old ddr3: corsair dominator cl8 4gb 1600mhz (2x2gb)
mobo: asus p7p55-m
cpu: intel i5 750 2.67
gpu: gigabyte gtx 960 (the small one)

Without ram: 3 beeps (repeating)
with 1 ram: 3 beeps (repeating)
with 2 ram: 3 beeps (repeating)

What to do?!
I reset the bios battery, I even put it out for an hour > did'nt work.
Is my new ram even compatible with my mobo? pc picker and other sites like that said it was but idk if it can handle 8gb in a single slot?

no the old memory is not working aswell.

8gb in 1 slot should be fine?

for some reason, Aasus doesn't show support for Crucial 8gb modules for that mobo,
although they can't test everything, I also don't see any higer dsticks than 4gb,
but a 16 gb max, they may only support 4 gb per slot.

Also, are the voltages the same? A quick look seemed to show the Crucial runs at 1.35V, which is lower than your old memory.
Check that the system is un plugged, pull out the CMOS battery, wait a minute, put it back. Try the old memory & make sure it
is inserted all the way into the slot & see again if it works.

The new memory may just not be compatible w/ that mobo.

Sorry didn't see you had the old RAM at 1600 aswell. But that still might be the problem; I don't get why your old memory worked anyways if your CPU isn't compatible..
But this is as far as my expertise goes 😛

Even though the CPU isn't supposedly compatible w/ the 100 speed, the MOBO can 'offset' that (kinda like overclocking- over simplification0)

If the old memory works, you could try the new memory, but I think it just may be incompatible w/ the mobo, you should be able to return it.

Also I plan to get a new processor + mobo soon anyways
would go for the intel i7 4790k with a z97 mobo like asus maximus hero 7 or should I get another mobo (maybe cheaper, would prefer a cheaper one) any suggestions?

and yes I do video editing so 16gb is fine for me (+future proof)

would like to keep my 16gb ram and find a fitting mobo for it (i7 4790k compatible)

btw my old memory worked cuz I changed the bios settings to xmp

Any of the Asus z97 should be fine, mobo do not have a large effect on performance, generally, unless your pushing OC's to the limits, go for the one that has the options you need.

The other thing about the memory, if you're thinking about upgrading in th future (32gb), generally it's best to get it at the same time for compatibility, as even 2 types that work separately in your mobo may not work together in the same mobo.

Possibly xmp may get the new memory to work?

nah 32gb is not needed, about the xmp
the problem is that I can't turn xmp on because I can't get into my bios =/
do you think my mobo can handle the 8gb x2 though? and not 4x4gb max?

I'm not really sure as ASUS doesn't list 8gb modules, which again just means they haven't tested it (may not existed when the 1st made the board).
In some board, the only limiting factor is the maximum amount of memory, but in oyhers, sometime each slot can only support a certain siz, so that you need to fill all to get the maximum.
. . .and the 2 memories may have different electrical(voltage) requirements, which the ASUS may or may not be able to handle.

how to enable the xmp then?

You need to clear your CMOS. To do that, power off your pc and remove power cable. Switch the CLRTC_SW jumper to the other position for 10 seconds. Put back the jumper to the regular position.

Just taking out the battery doesn't reset the bios. But take out the battery when clearing the CMOS.

But would I be able to use my new ram?
