Try ruuning the System File Checker.

Open a Command Prompt.

Type

sfc /?

for syntax and usage notes.

I'd suggest

sfc /scanonce

and then reboot.

Have your XP CD-ROM to hand as your pc may need it to restore any corrupt
files.

Martin.

I'd guess that you just run SFC and it'll either find the files it needs
from the XP file cache on your hard drive or it'll ask for the HP CD-ROM.

Try it - if you can't locate a file to restore then post again with more
detail.

Martin.
