My ping will not go below 500, whilst it is as 500 my brothers ping (he lives in the same household as myself) will be 60 constant. My ping is sometimes shooting to 6000 upwards ping. When i was downloading i would recieve a download speed of 50kd/s whereas my brother would recieve 600kb/s. I am running through some virus scans and malware scans atm but i really do not know why the is happening and how to solve it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT : The virus scans came up empty

EDIT 18/05/15 : Got a CAT7 ethernet cable and it made no difference to the speed or ping

We are both connected via wired connection and it isnt just my brother anyone else in the house will recieve about 6mb/s when i will recieve 1mb/s i have tried using wireless and wired and they dont make the slightest difference. There is no way to limit usage on the hub we have. My brothers just has a boring laptop and i have a gaming pc with a GTX 970 and an i5.

Unfortunately none of these programs mentioned are actually installed on my machine, I will be getting a CAT7 ethernet cable tomorrow and i will see if it makes a difference but i am not being hopefully because i am currently on wifi with 2000ping so i dont see why a better ehternet cable will resolve the issue

Would you be willing to try a reformat and reinstall of windows?
If yes, and the problem is still around, then there's a problem with your network adapter.
If no, then the next thing to try would still be to get a new network adapter, like this: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TG-3468-1000Mbps-Gigabit-Express/dp/B003CFATNI/ref=lp_13983711_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1431963246&sr=1-5

Are there any other computers or tablets that you can run www.speedtest.net on and see if they have similarly bad pings? If it's only your computer, it might be hardware related.

Also a cat7 cable might not have been the best one to get, you probably should have gotten cat6e or cat5e, cables can go bad sometimes. The problem is cat7 uses new and different technology that may not be properly support by your hardware, even though it did seem to provide a benefit, though you still have too much ping.

If you have EVERYONE in the house turn off their computers/networked devices does that affect your ping at all?

My best bet is that it is hardware related as the ping is still high with no one on the internet and all other devices have good ping unlike mine. I think the best solution is to buy a new network adapter, could you be able to recommend/help me choose one to buy? I have never installed one or ever bought one before so help would be appreciated.

I would be curious to hear the results of running DSLReports Speed Test (http://dslreports.com/speedtest)

If your latency increases during the download or upload, your router is probably bloated. Check out http://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/cerowrt/wiki/What_t... for possible solutions.

This is how the test turned out http://prntscr.com/780bws

If you swap places with your brother's computer is there a difference?
If there isn't i'd say may try a network adapter card, which would be cheaper than a new motherboard, you don't need an expensive one: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/wired-network-card/#i=38,37,35&sort=a6&page=1

Sorry to bring back this thread from he dead but i just purchased a new motherboard and the ping is still very very high, while everyone else in the house is maintaining high speeds with low pings. I also made a new user to see if it was a program sapping bandwith but the ping was just as high on another user, then i thought that it may be location? but how can it be where my room is located when im using a ehternet cable, then i thought it may be the hug but i tried all slots and they turned out all the same, low speed, high ping. I am stumped and have no idea how to resolve this issue and it really is a downer because it has put me off many online games that i used to enjoy. Playing league of legends at 750+ ping for 30mins is not enjoyable at all.

Location made no difference. And tried 3 different cables and wireless and all came up with the same ping.

I bought new motherboard, no improvement.

Disabled all startup processes and no improvement either.

I honestly have no idea what to do next, this makes no sense to me whatsoever because essentially i have bought a new pc.

I don't see this mentioned in the thread. What router are you using? Any ethernet switches or old school hubs in between your computer and the router. None of those cheap ethernet extender adapters? Is there anything at all between your computer and router?

This probably should have been tested before buying and installing a new motherboard because it's a much easier upgrade and probably cheaper.

Okay, so there are still some questions we needs answered:

1. What specific motherboard model do you have? You might as well include the entire specific list of your hardware as well, no guessing, exact models.

2. What specific router model do you have? What's your network setup actually like, what are all the devices inbetween your computer and the internet?

3. What speeds are you paying your ISP for?

4. What servers are you trying to connect to? What game? Where are they located? Where are you located?

5. What do the settings for your ethernet network adapter look like?

The problem has been resolved!

Everyone in the household gets 3000+ constant ping now, not just me ^.^
Can't help but feel that im getting scammed by my ISP as we pay for 15 down 5 up and every test i have conducted in the past month have had the download below 1mb everytime i test it. A few days ago i had 0.47mb down and today i have 0.52mb down. I have contact the ISP so many times. Each time they refuse to fix/resolve the problem so i guess im just going to have to quit the internet for now.
