I get low fps and fps drops every second on a high end pc

Hey guys I'm having problems in GTA V, my fps drops to 12-15 and highest i can get is like 45 I'm trying to fix this since I bought the game (it was like at the end of may) but I couldnt find anything regarding my problem so I made a post

My pc

Gaming X 1070 8 gb
16 gb ram
i5 7600k
Monitor: PG248Q 180Hz


For anyone whose having similar problems I'm putting my comment here as well so it'll be easier to see than just scrolling down: Thanks for everything guys, I did as smorizio said and updated my bios, which led to windows crashing then I reinstalled windows but at the end it was fixed. I dont know which did the trick but it's all smooth now.

what cooler are you using?
Check CPU temp, could be thermal throttling
also GPU temp
MSI afterburner is a good tool.

Also this problem's only present in GTA V, I play Warframe, Overwatch, For Honor and Destiny 2 and those are running at 150-90 fps at ultra

If only GTAV, try reinstalling the game...

Gta is really demanding. Huge environment and all

so even a 1070 cant run it? It's using 2470 or something like that of my video memory and 8600-ish of it is the max, also I made it like 2831 and I still got the same fps which is weird cause it should've reduced the amount of fps I get right? well no

can you check CPU usage in those 15-20 fps? Open task manager and see what process other than GTA is occupying CPU?

Use Resource Monitor instead. Look at each tab the CPU the network and the disk and see what hogging

make sure the mb bios is up to date. on an old game like that see if it running 9x or 12. if it running older version of dirext try making it use the newer 12x.

I'm having the same issue and I can't find a fix for it at all

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (EVGA SSC)

maybe your settings are too high? what do you have your gpu game set for? if too high, then as above, cpu/gpu thermal throttling is going on.

i bet the bios update was critical, and a reinstall of windows too

Sometimes if you run GTA in windowed boarderless it goes to 20 fps (like it's not in priority) just already tab to another program then tab back into GTA and it should restore your fps.
