I get the error message "cannot write ,to hunk usage.dat".

What does this mean?

Q. I get this error: "cannot write to hunkusage"
A. Find every hunkusage.dat file in your ET directory (there may be more than one) and delete it. if you can't delete it, reboot your computer in safe mode, delete it and then reboot in normal mode. This should fix the problem.
