I am getting the very very annoying. repeating USB device not recognised errors, when there is nothing plugged in to my USB ports at all.

I have not changed anything on my machine at all.
It seems that the system keeps looking for a device, deciding that because there is nothing there that it will not recognise it and then it repeats up to 20 times a minute. AAAGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Disabling it in device manager does not work. Uninstalling it in device manager does not work.

I am using windows 7 and cannot find anyway to cure this sudden problem!

Please help!

Sounds like a short in either the USB port or the controller. If it is the port then just clean it (unlikely), if it is the controller then it is time for a new motherboard (much more likely) :)
It's always so good to bring good news lol

If you use a PS2 mouse and key board go to hardware manager and just uninstall everything that is USB. Even the usb controls and root hubs. When you reboot windows 7 will reinstall every thing for you.

some times the cheap front panel usb ports short due to bad wiring or cheap ports. Shut off the PC try to unplug the cases front panel USB ports and then reboot. If this solves the issue contact the case manufacturer about a replacement Front USB cable.

You can also try to enter the bios and dissable the upfront USB ports. Some boards have multiple USB controlers and you can turn 1 or the other off. Try to turn all of them off and boot to windows. Problem should be gone along with all USB functionality. Then go back to bios and turn on 1 controler. Then see if you get the error.
