after a 1 month vacay i came back and tried printing a photo

w11 64bit...
epson 2720

magenta wasn't printing. i tried and checked everything

i called epson tech supp

here's the story as far as i can comprehend....................he started navigating my computer remotely and this is what he said
HE SAID I HAVE TO REACTIVATE MY W11 WITH AN ACTIVATION CODE. basically he said my machine's time is up and since i don't have the activation code all the drivers don't work. he said i will only be able to do basic functional things but all the programs i have installed will no longer work eventually. he said i will have to get a code at $50 per year for 5years = total $300. the remote tech guy linked me to an article abot windows no longer supporting w10 after october 2025. i told him i have w11. he said i might have a w11 upgraded from w10

right now the only thing not working is the printer color. all my other programs are working fine.

i bought a beelink from amazon. ive had it for 2years and it has been working VERY well

guys,,,i don't even know if i'm explaining this correctly. it's so weird i never heard of this before

help

  1. To see the activation status of your Windows 11, Settings > System > Activation. If the "Activation state" is "Active", then it's already active.
  2. Microsoft extended security update for consumer costs $30, and it only lasts for one year.
  3. How did you come by Epson tech support's phone number? Web search?
You should consider:
  1. Download ESET online scanner and use it to fully scan your PC.
  2. Use Revo uninstaller to check programs that have been installed recently, and uninstall anything (recently) that you don't recognize, especially anything related to remote control.

Oh my.

You called the WRONG help line for your printer.

You called a SCAM site, and they are SCAMMING you.
100%

There is no "$50 per year". Everything he said was 100% wrong.

The Beelink had Win 11 when you go it? No problem.

Your only issue was that the magenta cart in your printer has dried up. Or needs cleaning.

it says "active" wtf

i went to call epson support. and got this google search result https://www.google.com/search?q=eps...aQWYhX_EFVI7L2kFmIV8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

i called the number ...talked for a while and the support had me do a remote. he went though my computer we were talking for 5 minutes. he linked me to a remote where he started searching my computer and then told me about the activation code. he basically laid out this activation thing wherein he

i now feel like i been scammed but otoh i got three computers and they all have the same epson printing issue. how could all three have the same issue. i just tried my wife
s beelink and her epson is fine....I BOUGHT HER BEELINK 2MONTHS AGO - ive had my three problem computers for 2 > 7years

It is a printer issue, not a Beelink issue!

so then can someone tell me why my printer is not printing magenta when the nozzle check and head cleaning were all fine

If you didn't carefully check the returned result, i.e. the info was from Epson, it's a tech-support scam, via Google's ad or SEO poisoning. Google's ads are untrustworthy; ad-blockers are recommended. SEO poisoning is possible but less likely than malicious ads.

Legit computer/printer tech support will walk you through the troubleshooting steps you do yourself first. You should be wary of any remote access request because they can do everything you can do on the computer, including stealing info (which can be accomplished in seconds), installing malware, installing persistent remote access, etc.

It was just a printer problem. Now, you may have a malware/RAT issue on the Beelink you granted remote access as well. Malwarebytes scan may not be enough. The possible confirmations/solutions have already been mentioned.

Good luck.

malwarebytes, spybot, and eset came up clean

i called epson supp and asked about their protocol with unusual or unsolvable issues and they do use remote access.

and to another reply,,,,i went on yt to see how to fix the tanks,,and it wasnt worth the hassle

thank you all for the answers. toms is the best👍👍👍

i decided to just order another2720 ,n and after having done that i decided wtf. so i did two more power cleans (in addition to the three i already performed) and guess what,,,the magenta now works... i guess it took FIVE separate power cleans to fix the non-issue

in any case i changed all the relevant id/pw. i have a few dedicated computers that do different things so if there was any malware all it got was access to my acct on toms hardware and a few other forums. so if you get any weird sh** queries from me,,,,,,,,,,IT'S NOT ME😀😀😀

Most polymorphic or specially designed RAT's and crime ware won't show up on security scans because it was specifically made/ modified on the spot for the situation or specific target/vector.

So no matter how many programs you have and what the scan results say it doesn't mean your safe or not infected.

Always confirm contact information directly from manufacturer's website.

And the nicer they are the more likely it's a setup/trap.

Just alike all the responders here said, I agree with their assessment and printer troubleshooting.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
