It should work - if you're installing it on a custom build, you shouldn't have any issues. It will add some diagnostic tools from Dell with the OS but nothing harmful. You also might need to manually download your NIC driver and let Win7 find the rest through windows update.

I will say I had an OS install when I tried to use a Dell reinstall disk on an HP desktop because it discerned that it wasn't a Dell. It's only happened once so far but that was an XP disk.

Try plugging in your key manually and see if it accepts it - it's kind of a crap shoot, I have had it worked the vast majority of the time with an OEM license but it's hit and miss.
