Is there a restriction on the copy made by Costco?

There shouldn't be any restrictions. How did you copy the file to your desktop and in what format (i.e. *.avi, etc) is the file in? Also, did you just try a straight DVD to DVD copy? You may not have copied everything needed to your desktop depending on the format of the original DVD.
