From your earlier thread, did you ever verify that your optical drive was working properly in this current build configuration?

Double check that both the SATA power and data connectors are firmly attached on the optical drive itself and motherboard/PSU (as appropriate). Try an alternate SATA port and/or cable as well.

No it does not checked after YOU said this, thanks
In all my Windows 10 computers, Blu-ray drives appear under a different heading named 'DVD/CDROM drives', located under 'Display adapters'.

'Disk drives' is reserved for hard disk drives and SSDs only, not optical drives.

'DVD/CDROM drives' is missing from your Youtube video. This means the BIOS has not detected the optical drive.

Several possibilities:

1). The Blu-ray drive has died.

2). The SATA data cable is faulty.

3). The SATA power lead is faulty.

4). The SATA port on the motherboard is not working.

I suggest the following:

5). Try several different SATA ports on the motherboard. The existing SATA port might be disabled after installing an M.2 NVMe SSD, or a PCIe plug in card (lane sharing).

According to the manual, you should not use SATA_1 or SATA_2 if you have an NVMe drive fitted in M2_3 slot:
https://download-2.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/MAGZ790TOMAHAWKMAXWIFI_EN.pdf
"* SATA_1~2 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SSD in the M2_3 slot."
You're currently using SATA_5 or SATA_6 which should be OK.

6). Try a different SATA data cable.

7). Use a different SATA power connector.

8). Try the Blu-ray drive in another computer (or a friend's).

Good luck.

To check if power is reaching the Blu-ray drive, press the open/close button and see if the drawer slides out.

It doesn't prove the SATA interface is working but at least the drive is "alive".

H5D 40. Nice bit of kit. Much bigger sensor area than full-frame 35mm. :)

Thanks so I need this

Ok then this, thanks for the help

Are you trying to make your optical drive an external device?

If so, look for "External Blu-ray Drives" on Amazon.

I KNOW you must get sick of basic questions.
I like the basic questions. They're often easier to answer.:)

I will also try the adapter one last time before binning the LG Drive

I wouldn't bother. See below:

Just FYI, those types of adapters typically can not handle the power requirements of an optical drive.
Good call. I found this request on Tom's:
https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/how-many-watts-does-a-blu-ray-drive-use.3148524/

Which led to this page:
https://www.buildcomputers.net/power-consumption-of-pc-components.html

Optical Drive Power Consumption

DVD Optical Drive

SATA DVD Drive

15 to 27 W

SATA Blu-ray Drive

25 to 30 W

The above table indicates the maximum power consumption of optical drives when burning a DVD or Blu-ray disc.

Optical drives consume just 1.5 to 5 Watts of power during idle, so they add very little to the total power consumption of PC components.

Assuming your Blu-ray drive needs up to 30W for the blue laser, the USB3 port on a normal computer can only supply 0.9A at 5V = 4.5W

Quite obviously 4.5W is nowhere near enough if the drive needs 25 to 30W.

My guess is a 5.25" optical drive uses power from the +12V supply on the SATA power connector (yellow wires) in addition to +5V (red wires).

+12V is missing from a USB to SATA adapter, which only has +5V at 0.9A.

If you need help on optical drives we can't answer here, try this forum:

What optical drive are you using? Internal SATA or external USB? I have one Internal AM4 PC that has 1 Pioneer BDR-206BK SATA, all formats except 4k. AM5, external LG BE14NU40 USB 3.0. All formats. Forget about 4k using a PC. 4k is not supported.
