I have 2x 780ti in SLI. I want to upgrade to Pascal. 1080 or 1080ti?

So I want to move away from SLI because of the heat, game issues. I have 2x 780ti which is pretty much unnecessary since it's equivalent to 1 980ti. I'm gaming on 1440p so from my knowledge 8GB VRAM is way better for my needs.

So, my question is.. Should I get the 1080 and will it beat my 2x 780tis? or wait for the 1080ti which im guessing will be as powerful as 2x 980ti in sli?

If it matters, I have the classified kingpin editions.
(Very stupid move on my part because these cards were meant for extreme overclocking capabilities which I never did. LN2 cooling,etc.)

You should nave no problem gaming at 1440P with a single GTX980ti.
You may lose fps benchmarks, but a single card will resolve many other dual gpu issues.

We need to wait for benchmarks, but I have no doubt that the GTX1080 will play very well even at 4k resolution.

The single 1080 will be better. However, there's nothing wrong with your set up now - 4GB is fine for 1440p

780ti only has 3gb vram. Adn i'd like to upgrade because i'm not too happy with the fps that I get with the amount of heat and sli issues that i get

I was not suggesting you do.
I was pointing out that today, a lesser than GTX1080 like the GTX980ti performs very well at 1440P and does play some games well at 4k.
There is little doubt that the GTX1080 will be the new king of the hill and perform well at ANY resolution.

Yeah, you should probably go for the 1080 if you can RMA the 780 Ti's. If not, then it's a smarter idea to go 1070, since 600+ dollars might be too much without the money back from an RMA. Just remember for next time silk dude, a better single card is always better than two worse cards.

Your current setup apart from VRAM is stronger than a 980ti so the jump to a 1080 might not be a great as hoped. As for a 1080Ti Nvidia are going to milk the 1080 first so I don't expect to see one for at least 1 year

I get same 3D Mark scores as a single 980ti so it's not really stronger

It doesn't matter, you can RMA components for any reason, it doesn't just have to be that it doesn't work. But if you like your 780 Ti's, by all means keep them, just remember you won't get money from them for an upgrade on your graphics card

What plays an even bigger part is if the damn game supports SLI/CF
