[SOLVED] I have 2x4gb ram, can i add 2x8gb ram without problems

Mixing RAM sticks is never guaranteed to work.

my end goal is for 2x4gb and 2x8gb, my mobo can handle sticks up to 8gb and max total of 32gb

As said, there is zero guarantee of that working.
It might work, it might fail.

RAM is only guaranteed to work in the way it is sold.
Will you actually nneed more than 16GB?

no youre right i only need 16gb, so would another 2x4gb work or 1x8gb of the same type that I already have in

Your best bet is to buy 2x8GB.
Try it with your current 2x4GB.
If it works, you then have 24GB.
If it fails, remove the 2x4GB and have the 16GB you just bought.

Generally ddr3 will work together quite well, especially when it matches specs (speed and voltage mainly). I haven't had an issue getting almost any ddr3 to play nicely together. Just keep in mind that dual channel may not work the best since you've got 2 different sizes.

Memory manufacturers won't guarantee such a setup to be without problems.
