i have 6gb of ram and only 1.44 is usable!

i have two of the exact same asus computers and they both have 6 gb of ram but one says i have 5Gb usable while the other says only 1.44! this is a drastic drop for a gaming pc and i really need to know how to fix this so the two computers are equal

The memory in both computers, are they the same brand/model? If not, what are the make and model (part numbers) of the memory modules (part numbers usually start with capital letter)?

For additional hardware installed in both computers, are they the exact same for both computers? If not, what are the differences (make/model of hardware)?

both computers are from asus (legit the internals are carbon copies except for the case and i believe one is older by a couple months or so) i bought the computers as a whole instead of making one so i have no idea where to find what type of motherboard they have as they are both generic asus motherboards that came with the computer.

bad RAM stick. to get 6G, you'd combine a 4G with a 2G, so on one machine the 4G stick is dead/fried, leaving you with only 2G (minus a bit for hardware)

Try swapping the DRAM from one rig to the other and let us know what happens - if you get the same on the other rig then the 4GB stick is prob dead or not compatible

i had recently removed the two pieces of ram and dusted them off to find the overclock speed but when i put them back in it fixed itself... problem solved itself ?

Most likely dust or dirt on the memory module contacts.
