So i have 8GB of ram installed but it only uses 3.97,I have looked at a lot of other threads about this on countless forums but none of the solutions are working,i am running win 10 64 bit (pic attached),i have cleared the maximum memory thing in ms config,i have checked that the 8gb is being picked up (it is),I will attach some screenshots of relevent system info for you guys so hopefully i can make your job easier.trying to solve this is driving me insane and any help will be much appreciated. http://imgur.com/a/Ziwre http://imgur.com/a/3tyd9 http://imgur.com/a/pVfB0 http://imgur.com/a/5NeKo http://imgur.com/a/6y9Zk http://imgur.com/a/ve6Qp http://imgur.com/a/Ybskz

Solution
Try troubleshooting in this order:

1.) Power down your system, unplug it from the wall, pull out all the RAM sticks, blast them with compressed air, and seat them back into the slots. Power the system back on and see if you still have one stick reading as hardware reserved.

2.) Run one stick at a time to see which stick is dead.

3.) Try the dead stick by itself in each slot to see if a slot is dead.

Solution

Ok i have completed the first step, but what do you mean by hardware reserved?

In the third link you posted, it shows 4GB of ram being "hardware reserved". This means that your system is detecting that you have 8GB installed total, but is unable to make use of 4GB of it. Ideally, you should have no more than 60~ish MB as hardware reserved.

Oh ok,yeah it still is,i'll try the next step

ok,i ran boths sticks one at a time and neiter of them had any issues running on their own(neither are dead) what now

Type msconfig into the search bar, go to the boot tab, and make sure everything is unchecked, and then reboot. Are the 2 4GB sticks from a matching set, or did you buy two sticks separately? What make/model are they? Is XMP enabled?

When I came across this issue, I just started swapping slots until I got all 8gb to be recognized. While testing with other ram sticks, I realised I had a dead ram slot.

I am pretty sure everything is unchecked ( http://imgur.com/a/0ZrJx , http://imgur.com/a/9LIbN )and they came in a matching set the model is displayed in this pic ( http://imgur.com/a/mLQ1r ),and i will check if XMP is enabled in my BIOS and will mess around with slot placement

It is great success,i changed my slot placement around like you said and it worked turns out my 3rd slot might be a dud, i now have all 8gb being read and used thank you so much for your help amtseung couldn't have done it without you!
