I have 8GB RAM installed but in task manager it only uses 50% of the Memory

Hi, I hope if someone can help me to solve this problem please, I have 8GB ram installed when I open any game like Farcry 4 and turn the graphics to Medium I get low fps and the game runs badly, when I saw that I opened Task Manager and saw that on top of the Memory it says 50% and I just wanna know how can I use the other available memory

That looks fine you have 64 bit windows so you can use all the RAM needed, the reason you get low FPS in Far Cry 4 with graphics on medium is probably because you have a terrible GPU.

The CPU in that laptop isn't terribly fast: the i7-4500U is slower than the slowest current desktop i3 and some of the newer Pentiums.

The GPU isn't much to look at either, an Nvidia 840M with 2GB of DDR3 memory.

I looked up your laptop review and specs.

That laptop only has a Nvidia GTX 740 GPU for graphics. Far Cry 4 is a demanding AAA title. You might have to try and lower to low detail settings, and or 720p resolution.

Your confusing parts of the computers.

To specify:

- A CPU is the brains of the computer that 'processes' the data to 'do something' like make a BOOM or tell the computer to draw a tank.

- A GPU 'draws' on the screen the actual animations / pictures of what you want to see

- Your data (movie, Chrome, a game, etc.) is stored on the Hard Drive which is calculated in how much storage memory it has. Think of you BELLY as a Hard Drive, you 'store' the code there to 'use' later (eating food now to go have the energy to ride a bicycle later).

- RAM or 'memory' as your referring to is the 'memory' of 'code' pulled from the Hard Drive Device (HDD) for the CPU to process (do something with).

- VRAM or Video RAM is the memory for the video card, which also pulls 'code' but from RAM because the CPU said ' "pass this stuff to the GPU to do that 'graphics stuff" while the CPU is doing 'other things' (making a explosion, recording a achievement, calculating your score, etc.).


So to answer your question: the laptop all around is NOT made for gaming, it is made for light 'use' like seeing Netflix or other activities NOT gaming. While you can TRY to dumb down the graphics and such all you like, you would have a MUCH BETTER experiance if you instead loaded the game on your PS4 (which is only $150 refurb ) and play much better if you do not have the nearly $2000 for a PC Gaming Laptop or $700+ for a PC Gaming Desktop computer to 'play games' properly.

Because it does not need any more than that? If you load a piece of software that uses 2GB of RAM for a given set of settings, it will still use only 2GB of RAM regardless of whether you have 8GB of system RAM or 128GB.

While you could increase game settings in a bid to increase memory usage, your computer lacks the necessary CPU and GPU power to make the game playable and increasing settings can only make that worse.
