I have a 144hz monitor hooked up to my computer. I know that in windows, the highest refresh rate is 60hz. Does that mean that if I play more than 60fps, it wont go past 60hz? How can I use my 144hz monitor to it's full potential?

Hi there, you need the dvi cable for your monitor, not the vga, so you can get the 144hz, and make sure you change the refresh rate setting on your computer after you get the cable.
Besides games can go up to 300 fps but trust me I have the 144hz monitor my self, just adjust the game setting on 144 fps or something below it like some games like call of duty black ops 2, the company disabled the game console, and provided the following refresh rate for the game "30/45/60/90/120" so you can pick the 120 hz no problem, but some games like counter strike, you can adjust the fps from game console with the following command, fps_max, set that to fps_max 144 it's 300 by default, if you don't want to see your pc crash adjust games on 144hz /fps, which match your screen refresh rate, or like call of duty 120hz since it's the highest

Most of the fps locks can be manually edited out for whatever number you want (within range). Make sure you have a dual link dvi cable, and set windows advanced display options to have 144hertz.
