Hey everyone , thanks for taking the time to read this. Here is a quick rundown of how I got here:
My wife had a 4690k setup and I had a 4790k setup. I wanted/needed something new so I ordered myself a 1700x asus crosshair.
we sold my wife's 4690k and she now has the 4790k setup. it is working just fine for her, but things could always be better.
i got lucky and was notified by newegg they have 8700k in stock so i pulled the trigger and ordered it.
my thought process being;
1 - sell my wife's 4790k setup, as she has a new computer case coming in this week so i will have to transfer everything anyways. i would sell her msi z97a gaming 7 board with 4790k, 16gb of hyper furyx, with noctua 14, and i was thinking for $325. i would then sell her other 16gb of ram separately for $90 (i'm assuming i could get $400 for those parts, give or take and reuse her power supply and hard drives in the new case.) she needs a new video card, she is using an old radeon. i would then give her the Ryzen 1700x in her new case.
2- assuming number 1 happens, i would then build myself the 8700k setup with an asus maximus board. ram is yet undecided. i would then order us both nvme drives and use our ssd's as our back up drives. i already have a 1080ti and nice case with power supply. so i should be set. (then in a year or two, i could get my wife the zen2 chip which should technically drop into her system, if its better than the 8700k, then we would be switching again lol.)
3- or keep everything the way it is, and resell the 8700k for a few extra bucks to offset the cost of the ryzen setup.
i am just a little torn on which angle to go so i'm looking for some input "in a what would you do" scenario.
i do love the idea of us having two cutting edge systems.
thanks for your time and help
