So, I have a cheap 600w power supply 80+ from EVGA and I'm planning on getting 2 rx 480s that I was told that the cards are supposed to be around 110-135 TDP. My question is will this work... Or do I need to get a better PSU.

Build:
Intel I5-6600k
CM Hyper Evo 212
Gigabyte GA-Z170M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Avexir Core Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400
Seagate Momentus Thin 500GB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Radeon RX 480 (x2)
EVGA 600w 80+ certified PSU

Well provided nothing is overclocked, if we say worst case the cards run at 150w (max for single 6 pin connector + pcie power) + similar for rest of system, your around 450w total. So on a technical level, yes.

That said, I always think you don't want to be regularly going much over 50% loading on the supply, at least for prolonged periods. This is because if you look at the detailed power readings Toms do on graphics card in particular, a card that averages 150w can often spike to double its rated power (albeit for a short period). I think long term use of that setup could kill the PSU.

If it was a higher end 600W model it'd probably be fine. I'd certianly run a single card + that processor off that no issue. Maybe look at one of the EVGA SuperNova Gold supplies, something like a 650 or 700w model, to ensure you've got comfortable headroom

If your current supply is still in good nick you could probably sell it on, or re purpose it for a single gpu system?

No that doesn't look very good, it's only rated at 75% efficiency (ouch!).

Also cannot find the model on the PSU tiers list (list is in OP):

For a dual card setup you really should be looking at a T1 or T2 supply. The one you have is in T3 which (despite what many on here will tell you) is fine for a single card system in my experience.

What's your budget? I can have a look for you... does it need to be from Amazon or?

Edit: This looks like a good option, from the Tier 1 list.

Well, I'm looking for something 40-60$ I can probably do more if I get a cheaper case. Amazon or Newegg are my go-tos

I've had a look and I can't find anything in the power range you need from the T1 / T2 list that costs less than the one I previously posted at $75.

I think the manufacturers have to start cutting corners to get the price much lower (so they use thinner cables, lower voltage / life span capacitors and so on). I think it's worth the money to get a good supply though, especially for dual cards, as apart from the hassle of having to replace the thing if it fails- there is also the risk that a dead supply can take other components with it, depending on how it fails.

Hello, if your PSU was a higher end EVGA like 650 G2 it would be absolutely no problem IMHO., but low end is a no no. Same as cheap PSUs no matter the power. For PSU You do not wanna get something cheap. This is one of the parts You definitely wanna have "premium". Also I would not go for RX480 CF. Of course, CF RX480 under DX12 might be the beast but single card solution is always better not to mention not many games run under DX12 right now and not every game has multi-GPU support. If I were you I'd go even for EVGA 550W G2 and wait for Vega or w/e card AMD has for us in 300-350 dollars range this year. (Polaris announced between 199-300 while 4gb RX480 is 199 and 8gb RX480 229 dollars so something else must be coming! 😀 ) and you will be fine with it. Or you should be okay even with your old 600 PSU. Also you have i5 6600k "only" and for CF it is much better to have i7 as it beats the CPU a lot. Also RX48 is 14nm FinFet so there is a huuuuge chance upcoming AMD cards will be awesome overclockers so bear that in mind when thinking about PSU.

Let's say my budget is 100 dollars Max. What would be the best option

the best option in that price range.

Yeah that's a decent unit.

Would the G1 series be a viable option?
