Solution
The best CPU is definitely AMD Phenom II X4 B97. This processor can support up to HD 7750 (used), R7 250, GT 740 and maybe GTX 750, GTX 750TI is your top, it will be most likely bottlenecking your CPU, but not by much, so it is still OK. All those cards do not require power supply upgrade.

I got hp Compaq 6005 pro microtower with 4gb ram windows 7 pro 64bit

Unfortunate that your limited to 95 Watt CPU's.

I would hit some Techy Forums and see if you can find something Cheap, a CPU that old you should be able to pick up for around $20 and not the typical Ebay inflated price.

Very good list, however you missed one more:

AMD Phenom II X4 B97 Processor
3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 6-MB shared cache $59 + free shipping

thanks do u mind to tell me whats the best cpu and cpu z didn't get my motherboard for some reason it showed hp

I've considered maybe upgrading the motherboard or getting a new pc which comes with a good motherboard or some good parts already because the main stuff I was looking on upgrading in my current pc was a good graphics card and getting 4gb more ram to get to 8gb ram but then I thought wouldn't the gpu be bottlenecked by my processor so that led me here Thanks Again ill keep this thread open for a few more days to see what reply's I get

With a 3ghz CPU he can easily run up to a R9 270X without seeing any Throttling, Phenoms have a better Single Core performance than Bulldozers, a B97 is a low power 955 which still is fairly usable. If he had the ability to overclock and unlock then he could run a R9 280. With a 300 Watt old power supply, recommending anything other than a 750TI would be iffy even the best units out after that long will only output about 80% of what it is labeled for.

i searched the procceser but I cant find it if I cant I probably will stick with this cpu Thank you for your time

Don't understand what you mean? This is eBay link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Free-Shipping-AMD-Phenom-II-X4-B97-CPU-HDXB97WFK4DGM-AM2-AM3-938pin-3-2G-95W-6M-/171853392987?hash=item280342ac5b

Since you will be removing your old CPU, you have to clean good your heatsink and clean eBay CPU as well. you need at least Arctic Silver 5, there better compounds, but this one is one of the cheapest and well recommended, and easy to apply, will provide instructions as well.

Look at those offerings, I would recommend to get a cleaning solution as well, for best results, or you can use some technical alcohol to save money, but is it worth it?
Listed, first paste by itself, cleaning solution by itself, next 2 options for combination of both.

This is Arctic Silver 5 application instructions pdf or general page.

Stop PMs, lets talk here.

Other parts after CPU would be GPU, as noted GTX 750TI is a good choice, the easiest upgrade is RAM.

I don't see one important point asked here, what is you form factor. Look into your manual http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx%2Fc04123349.pdf I hope you have Micro Tower, which can fit full height GPU.

I don't think you mentioned your OS, is it Win 7, 8 or 10 and is it 32 bit or 64 bit, the latter is required for more than 4 GB of RAM.
For RAM upgrades, to prevent issues, I would strongly advise to go simple with Crucial Adviser
Micro Tower and Small Form Factor share the same RAM upgrades http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/6005-pro-microtower shipment to Canada is a standard $10 fee with Canada Post http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Suggestion-Box/Shipping-Costs-to-Canada/m-p/158075/highlight/true#M615

What else? SSD? I don't know yet if your PC supports ACHI, can you look in the BIOS?

yea I got a hp Compaq pro microtower windows 7 and yes I guess my upgrading budget is $240 Canadian or less so idk if I should get the 750ti if I wanna upgrade other things and ive been looking a a gt 610 2gb ddr3 and gt 730 2gb ddr3 128bit i don't really need a ssd at the time but ill keep it in mind
the main games im looking to play are gta 4 medium settings with some mods running like a few and cs go medium settings 1024x768 60 fps+ and a gta 5 later on im considering

64 bit 80$ or less I can go 10 or 15 up but that's it really I got a tight budget atm I wanna get a PC as good as a ps4 or better if its in my budget

Is it the same?

we need confirmation to choose the correct size for your GTX 750TI

See, I can not find open case images of 6005, so I looked at 6000 and asked if case is the same.

I know that processor and motherboard most likely differ from each other.

So basically HP does business the same way as Dell - 6000 is Intel based, and 6005 is AMD based, both cases are the same.

I just wanted confirmation from OP as owner.

So taking this to consideration, please watch the video and look at pictures - what is the difference between yours and 6000?

the case definetly looks the same
for the 6005 micro tower
