Hi there
I have a desktop computer with an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 mother board which I hardly use!
Specs as below
650 PSU
AMD Fx-8350
8 GB RAM
Graphics card HD 7750

One day the computer would not start as the CPU led on the motherboard was lit.
Tested eveything from RAM to CPU and all were fine, so the culprit now is the MB
I took to a repair shop and I was told it is the BIOS and he installed a new one.
The computer was not working as before and sometimes freezes at startup.

I just discovered that the BIOS installed was for another ASUS MB which is M5A97.
Here is the question
Can I install the correct BIOS software (M5A99X EVO) on this BIOS (M5A97)? or this would mess the bios?

Solution
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Make and model of your PSU and it's age? As for your BIOS(and the chip), you're advised to have the right chip in the board, then have the right BIOS version for the motherboard. Chances are you could brick the board beyond repair. You should take the board back to the repair shop and have them rectify it - considering they are the ones who put you into this position.

You could just by a chip from Ebay that's appropriate for your board and have the seller flash the BIOS to your board's latest BIOS version. FYI, the BIOS chip is located just under the TPU lettering on the motherboard's PCB;

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
As for my PSU, it is Alpine JSP-650P12N and it is about 8 years old but I rarely use the desktop as my laptop is my main computer.

Thank you so much for your answer regarding the BIOS.
I guess I will follow your advice and return the chip.

Do you think the PSU has anything to do with the original BIOS issue?

(UPDATE to my issue which has been solved)
I paid another visit to the repair shop, he did not have my MB BIOS version.
So I decided to keep the wrong one as the only solution was to remove the BIOS and get my money back which I did not want or like.

I got back home, downloaded the correct firmware version from Asus website for my M5A99X EVO R2.0
Put it on a FAT32 usb disk, followed the instructions given by Asus to FLASHBACK my Board.
It worked and the computer works perfectly now.

If anyone needs my assistance or want to ask about the process, please do not hesitate to ask.
P.S
It is a very risky process and you must know what you are doing before doing it or you will lose your BIOS chip in the process.
Link to the Asus instruction of how to flashback your MB.
