I have a cd rw disk drive that isn\'t being recognized by my xp pc

I haven't used my disk drive for ages and when i did try to use it my PC IBM m50 xp pro - doesn't recognize it or list it in the device area. why & how can i fix it?

Did you have the drive plugged in the whole time or did you just plug it in again? Make sure the drive is properly connected to the PC. It could be that the drive has simply died, its happened to me once or twice in the 10 years I've been messing with computers. It is unlikely though that it spontaneously died.
