Question I have a PC upgrade plan, but no idea for PSU

As the title says, I have planned an upgrade for my mobo, CPU and maybe RAM, but I want a new PSU to go with it, it only need to be a max 550W and modular isn't necessary but welcome if cheap enough. Suggestions welcome and reasons why.

FYI my old PSU is a 4 year old VS450, so you can see why I want to upgrade it.

Not on a tight budget, just want something that is better in every aspect. also reasons would give me a good concept of why a particular PSU is better over another, then i can recommend them myself to others.

I tend to stick to only corsair power supplies that are gold or higher.
