THE POST IS LONG. PLEASE READ. I have a custom built pc for 6 years now. Core i7 2700k, 1TB HDD SATA, 4GB DDR3 RAM, (ATI 5500HD) and Win 7 64bit and 32bit. I have upgraded my PC on January end. EVGA GTX1060 3GB and PSU Antec VP 450p
The problem started last week. I was using chrome when the screen froze. nothing worked. So i turned it off directly and opened it again and booted to the same OS i was using prior to the freeze(Win 7 32bit).
It logged in successfully but after logging it showed Nvidia share stopped working, windows explorer stopped working and was super laggy. I thought the files were corrupted on this windows so I turned off the pc and turned it back on a different copy of windows I already had on another drive. Win 7 64bit. It booted too and showed the same errors.
Next time I tried to boot it showed DISK READ ERROR Press Ctrl Alt Delete to restart. I turned it off and turned it on again this time it booted and showed the previous error I mentioned. I tried turning off and turning it on now it kept showing DISK READ ERROR Press Ctrl Alt Delete. I also tried selecting integrated graphics from the BIOS and plugging the DVI cable into the Mobo slot. It still showed the same error on boot. I unplugged everything, unplugged RAM cleaned plugged everything back in and it worked fine for a week.
Yesterday screen froze for few seconds then it went black and came back on showing Nvidia driver/kernal stopped working and has successfully recovered. Nothing happened then.
Today morning when I was trying to boot it was stuck on windows boot screen. I restarted and everything worked fine for 4 hours. I was using chrome when BSOD happened. I restarted and got DISK READ ERROR Press Ctrl Alt Delete I restarted again and it was stuck on Windows boot screen I turned off and restarted it booted fine didnt show any errors. I opened my computer it was fine. I opened chrome it loaded. I opened a sheet on chrome and it showed Aww Snap error. then suddenly I was getting crash errors from all the nvidia files. and suddenly the GUI went to basic mode. and i had to turn off.
So I opened the case and removed and reinsterted the hard drive cables pressed the GPU and Ram and other cables in case they were lose and restarted and it loaded with checkdsk and fixed few corrupted files which after completion loaded fine. The screen froze once while using chrome turned black and turned back on and showed that Nvidia driver stopped working and recovered error. Its working fine since then(been 20 minutes).
PS- I think i need to mention something after upgrading my PSU (was using previous graphics card), it showed DISK READ ERROR Press Ctrl Alt Delete to restart error while booting. I used another cable from the PSU for the harddrive and it has worked for 3 months no issues. So I am not sure if its relevant to the current issue.
