i have a smart tv so why do i need an aerial

My sons play station lets him watch freeview channels without an ariel so why cant I on my smart tv why do I need a tv ariel?
All i get is the message no signal and wont let me do anything till I plug my tv ariel into it.
So is there any way to watch my smart tv without an ariel?

Hi
I assume your son has a Play TV box that plugs into the playstation with a USB cable in order to watch Freeview.
Well that Play tv box requires an aerial to be plugged into it.
To watch Freeview you would need to plug an aerial into your TV but since its a smart TV that is connected to the internet then you could get something like Netflix which would enable you to watch movies and tv series streamed over the internet.
