I have a Toshiba Laptop with the same issue. i have to mess around w/ the screen placement for it to go to normal.

Like i said i have to mess around tith the screen placement. if i move the LCD it will freeze, fade, become really pixelated and fade to colours. laptop cant output to vga as port is damaged from earlier drop.

Sounds like either an unseated or damaged display cable between the display and board.
