What is bottlenecking my system? I have problems running games like bf4 and dayz. On BF4 I still only get 35-60 fps (in combat situations, if im like looking at a wall it can go up to 100~)
If it's my processor what do you recommend? I was thinking a i5 3570k.

what settings do you have bf4 at? and have you turned on turbo boost or over clocked your cpu at all? have you over clocked your gpu? what other programs are running while you play bf4?

the i5 is not a superior cpu to the fx8xxx
how much ram are you running and what cooling measures have you taken into use?

What do you think is safe with my limited cooling/lower end psu?
Like 4.0ghz? How hot is safe?

If you're looking for a CPU upgrade a cheaper path would be a FX 8320 or 8350 (piledrivers) that have much better performance than bulldozers like your current one. However if you do want to go intel a 3570k/4670k would both perform great. Remember to factor in the cost of the new CPU, motherboard and potentially windows if your current OS is OEM.

By the way, check your CPU/GPU usage while gaming at ultra and turn down the settings while checking what FPS you are getting. If you do not see an increase in FPS from reducing the eye candy, your CPU is most probably bottlenecking the GPU as you suggested.

if i got it to 4.0 do you think i would see a massive increase in performance? Or should I spend the money for a i5 3570k and OC that?

It's worth trying before buying anything else.

Thanks! Will try testing it.

If you see increase and you are happy then the problem is solved.
