I have an amd motherboard with the am3 socket it's actually the asus crosshair III formula and I can't upgrade currently but need a new cpu, I'm currently running an rx 460 16 gb of ram g.skill 1600mhz and (prepare to cringe) and athlon II 630 2.8Ghz. I want just to upgrade the cpu not my motherboard I would wait for zen and save but I use this for work and need a new one quickly I was going to choose the 860k but then I heard phenom II line had a septacore processor which should I get and if neither what's your suggestion

The 860k is not compatible. The best cpu you could get is the Phenom II x6 1100t or 1090t. You should be able to find a used one pretty easily.

The x6 1055t, x6 1075t, x4 965, or x4 975 would be good too.
