I have an Asrock FM2A88X Extreme 4 and an A6 6400K cpu. Are they compatible?

Yes they are compatible. If you are not on a budget buy the newest APU from AMD. 😉

My thanks to those kind souls who took time to give me advice. I am a novice as may be clear by my request for help, but astonished at the response and also the site. logainofhades commented that what I had was not the best choice of hardware. What might be considered a better choice given that I am not hugely into gaming. If I was to make some changes, should I keep the Asrock board and marry it to what processor, or keep the A6 6400K and put it into what mobo? Thanks again for all the help.

use what you got and see if it works as you need whats good for me may not be for you .. if you think it suites your needs then that's what matters

I said that because A-series are pretty weak, and their dual cores more so. Other than in graphics, the A6 would be outclassed by a Pentium G in every way. I really wouldn't want anything less than a quad core from AMD right now. (A8 or A10 if you want IGP)

he said up top its a salvage build with parts he's got in hand .. his old board may have went bad and just needs a board to get him going using all the parts of hi's old one ???? then now he got a nice board that later if he wanted to can do the upgrading

All I saw was that he had parts in hand, nothing about a salvage build. The board isn't bad, I guess my biggest issue is the A6. For a basic everyday rig, I wouldn't want less than an A8. Wouldn't mind me a low wattage Kabini build for an HTPC though. :lol:
